August 26th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of a Disney sequel, the loss of a Disney Legend, and the opening of a new Epcot attraction. So, let’s get started!
Tennis Racquet Released (1949)
On this day in 1949, the Goofy cartoon Tennis Racquet was released.
The short featured a tennis match between Goofy and Goofy!
Retta Scott Passes Away (1990)
On this day in 1990, Disney Legend Retta Scott passed away at the age of
Scott was the first woman to receive screen credit as an animator at Walt Disney Studios, working on films such as Bambi, Fantasia, and Dumbo.
Stitch! The Movie Released (2003)
On this day in 2003, Stitch! The Movie was released.
The direct-to-video sequel to Lilo & Stitch saw Experiment 626 being hunted by galactic forces.
Fred Joerger Passes Away (2005)
On this day in 2005, Diseny Legend Fred Joerger passed away at the age of 91.
Joerger was a master model maker and one of the first three employees of WED Enterprises. He would later be known for his rockwork on attractions such as the Jungle Cruise and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
StormStruck Opens (2008)
On this day in 2008, StormStruck opened in Epcot’s Innoventions pavilion.
The new exhibit allowed guests to simulate going through a hurricane in order to learn how to better protect their homes ahead of the dangerous storms.
A Milestone For The Disney Dream (2009)
On this day in 2009, a keel-laying ceremony was held for the Disney Dream.
The maritime tradition saw the first block of the ship lowered into the building dock. The ceremony was attended by Donald Duck!
Pup Academy Premieres
Finally, on this day in 2019, Pup Academy premiered on the Disney Channel.
The new series centered on Charlie, a man who has established a secret academy for puppies.
