AMC Theaters Will Reopen On August 20th
Happy Thursday Disney friends! We’re starting the day with some good news for cinema-goers! AMC Theaters just announced that they will be reopening their cinemas starting on August 20th! This includes their Disney Springs location in the heart of Walt Disney World!
Originally expected to open last month, the movie theater chain pushed their reopening back a month saying, “The new timing reflects currently expected release dates for much anticipated blockbusters like Warner Bros.’ Tenet and Disney’s Mulan as well as release dates for several other new movies coming to AMC’s big screens.” However, the company gave no specific opening date for the 450 US theaters that the company owns that have remain shuttered since this March. Yet, in what can be seen as a positive sign for the movie industry worldwide, AMC did reveal that one third of cinemas in Europe and the Middle East are already open and operating normally. ”
When AMC does reopen, guests can expect new COVID-19 safety measures and protocols to be implemented. This will include the electrostatic cleaning of seats for which the company announced a partnership with Clorox.
Here’s a look at some of the measures the cinemas will be taking:
Masks Required for All – Masks are required for guests and crew throughout the theatre. Your mask must cover your nose and mouth and fit snugly around your face and chin. Neck gaiters, open-chin bandanas and masks with vents or exhalation valves are not acceptable at this time, based on World Health Organization guidelines. If needed, masks are available to purchase at the cinemas for just $1.
Food & Drink in the Auditorium – In the auditorium, masks are still required, but may be removed while enjoying food and drinks. Protect yourself and others by wearing a mask before, during and after your movie.
Reduced Auditorium Capacities – All AMC, AMC DINE-IN™ and AMC CLASSIC® auditoriums are at 30% capacity or less, based on municipality guidelines. In auditoriums with traditional seating, every other row is blocked off for your safety. In auditoriums with wide AMC Signature Recliners, there is already enough space between rows to allow for social distancing. In all auditoriums, please leave an empty seat between yourself and other guests. Once you’re in the auditorium, if you are uncomfortable in your reserved seat, feel free to move to another socially distant seat after the movie starts, or see an associate for assistance or a refund.
Social Distancing Standards – Please remember to maintain distance before, during and after the movie. Follow the directional signs and the reminders posted throughout the theatre for guidance. This is a story that we’ll continue to follow closely here at MickeyBlog so keep checking in with us for further news and updates.
Cashless Transactions – Where tickets are sold, credit, debit or AMC gift cards are preferred to reduce contact, but cash is accepted, and may be used if needed to purchase a gift card for movie treats. Cash is not accepted at concessions or MacGuffins® Bar in order to avoid shared contact between cash and food handling. At select theatres where tickets and concessions are sold at one location, we will accept cash if no other form of payment is possible.
Hand Sanitizer & Disinfecting Wipes Available – Take advantage of the sanitizer and wipe stations throughout the theatre, especially at concessions, before and after pouring your favorite Coca-Cola Freestyle drink.
Refills Temporarily Unavailable – To minimize contact, AMC Perfectly Popcorn™ and Coca-Cola® Freestyle drink refills are unavailable at this time.
Daily Associate Health Screenings – Managers and crew members have their temperatures read before starting their shifts. Anyone who has a fever or symptoms is required to self-quarantine until symptom free for at least 72 hours.
As we mentioned above AMC theaters are collaborating with CLOROX to offer enhanced cleaning in ALL of their theaters. This includes:
Electrostatic Disinfectant Sprayers – Auditoriums are disinfected before each show with new electrostatic disinfectant sprayers. This cutting-edge equipment maximizes surface coverage by using negatively charged ions so that the disinfectant particles wrap around and cling to positively charged surfaces.
Upgraded MERV 13 Air Filters – For superior air quality, we’ve upgraded our HVAC systems with MERV 13 filters wherever possible.
HEPA Filter Vacuums – Every night, we vacuum carpeted areas using vacuums with HEPA filters, which are proven to trap 99.97% of airborne particles.
Routine Cleaning & Disinfecting – Throughout the day, common areas and high touch points are routinely cleaned and sanitized. In auditoriums, hard surfaces, including doors, handrails, recliner buttons, and tray tables will be disinfected before each showtime.
We’re glad to hear the AMC will be returning, especially since the company has been very vocal about their financial woes with rumors about a buyout spreading throughout the pandemic. We’ll be following along with screenings, reopening and more so keep checking in with us for further news and updates.
