This Day in Disney History- August 9

August 9th was a big day in Disney history, with the premiere of an animated classic, the opening of an iconic Disneyland ride and also a name change for a Walt Disney World park. So, let’s get started!

Donald’s Vacation Released (1940)
On this day in 1940, the Donald Duck cartoon Donald’s Vacation was released.

In the cartoon, Donald tries to take a relaxing vacation outdoors, but nature doesn’t cooperate with him!
Bambi Premieres In London (1942)
On this day in 1942, Bambi had its world premiere in London.

Disney’s 5th animated feature film, the film is a coming-of-age story about a young fawn. Bambi would be released in theaters on August 13.
Wet Paint Released (1946)
On this day in 1946, the Donald Duck cartoon Wet Paint was released.

The cartoon featured Donald’s newly painted car, which is threatened by Johnnie the bird, who only wants a thread for his nest.
The Aunt Jemima Pancake House Opens (1955)
On this day in 1955, the Aunt Jemima Pancake House opened in Disneyland’s Frontierland.

For the opening, guests were greeted by Aunt Jemima herself.
The Haunted Mansion Opens In Disneyland (1969)
On this day in 1969, The Haunted Mansion officially opened at Disneyland.

The iconic dark ride features 999 happy haunts, although there is always room for one more!
The Tower of Life Installed (1989)
On this day in 1989, the Tower of Life was installed at EPCOT Center’s Wonders of Life pavilion.

The 75-foot-5all structure was a replica of a strand of DNA.
Donald Duck Gets A Walk of Fame Star (2004)
On this day in 2004, Donald Duck received a star on the Walk of Fame!

Disney’s famous cartoon character’s star can be found in front of the El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.
Disney-MGM Studios Gets A Name Change (2007)
On this day in 2007, Walt Disney World announced that the Disney-MGM Studios would be changing its name to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The name change would officially take place in January 2008.
Planes Released (2013)
On this day in 2013, Planes was released to theaters.

The film was a spin-off of Pixar’s Cars franchise and was created by DisneyToon Studios. It was the first film produced by that studio in eight and a half years.
The Art of Racing in the Rain Released (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2019, The Art of Racing in the Rain was released.

The film told the story of Formula One race car driver Denny Swift who uses the lessons he learned on the racetrack in his personal life.
