Brightline Delays Orlando-Miami Service
Floridians who were hoping to take a trip on Brightline’s new South Florida to Orlando line will have to wait a little longer.
The rail company announced that it will delay the start of service by as many as two weeks as it completes the final stages of operational certification and crew testing.

Passengers who purchased tickets for the intended inaugural weekend of September 1 through September 5 were notified today that they would be getting refunds. Additionally, they will receive upgrade credits for Premium class and a 35 percent discount for Avis rental cars on the dates of canceled tickets.
Tickets On Sale For September 15
Brightline has two classes: Smart, which is described as comfortable business-class, and Premium a first-class experience with added amenities.”
Tickets are now on sale on Brightline’s website for service starting Friday, September 15.
Company officials said that the service could start sooner. Passengers whose tickets were canceled will get the first notification.
“We’re working through the final stages of certification and crew testing. But it’s apparent that we won’t hit our opening weekend as planned (Sept 1-5),” Brightline said in a statement. “Knowing it’s a holiday weekend, we want to give guests as much time as possible to adjust their travel plans.”
A Long Time Coming
The Orlando to Miami line has been a long time coming for Floridians.

Brightline released its concept of a passenger rail line between South and Central Florida nearly a decade ago. The line currently operates between Miami and West Palm Beach.
Track and station construction between West Palm Beach and Orlando International Airport were also recently announced as complete.
