Changes Arrive at Haunted Mansion in Disney World
In case you missed it, Disney World’s Haunted Mansion is getting a big change soon!
In addition to Haunted Mansion closing for refurbishment between August 7th and 9th, Disney recently announced that the Hatbox Ghost would be coming to the spooky ride “sometime in 2023,” and that we might see “temporary barriers” on the ride as Disney prepares for his arrival. Now, we have a small update about construction!
Haunted Mansion Construction
Let’s back up for just a second to remind you about the Hatbox Ghost, a Haunted Mansion character who is currently only present in Disneyland. This ghost holds a hatbox in which his head mysteriously appears.
Once placed in Disney World’s Haunted Mansion, Disney shared that the Hatbox Ghost would “appear to guests as they pass the Endless Hallway,” which was received controversially, considering his placement in Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion is different.
We recently rode Haunted Mansion to see if there are any changes yet, and there were! We know it’s impossible to see here, but the thing is — using your camera’s flash on dark rides is just not a cool thing to do. Not only does it disrupt the 999 happy haunts, but it also disrupts the experience of the ride for other guests!
According to our MickeyBlog reporters, there’s currently a big tarp in front of the “Donald Duck” armchair (a chair whose markings resemble Donald) near the endless hallway. The lights have been dimmed in the area, making it extremely difficult to photograph, so you’ll have to trust us.
Disney has not yet confirmed whether the Hatbox Ghost will officially be placed during the scheduled brief refurbishment, so we’ll be riding Haunted Mansion often in the coming days to find out!
With Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party kicking off on August 11th, it’s very possible that Hatbox Ghost will be ready for the party — but we’ll have to wait and find out.
