The CFTOD Abolishes All DEI and Race-Based Programs
The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) announced Thursday that it was abolishing all of its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and race-based hiring practices.
The CFTOD, which is the special district that governs the land in and around Walt Disney World, said that the change will reverse the policies put in place by the Disney-appointed Reedy Creek Improvement District. The new district board was appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

“The so-called diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives were advanced during the tenure of the previous board and they were illegal and simply unAmerican,” said Glenton Gilzean, the CFTOD’s administrator.
“Our district will no longer participate in any attempt to divide us by race. Or advance the notion that we are not created equal.”

How Reedy Creek’s Contracts Worked
According to the new oversight board, an internal investigation revealed that Reedy Creek had “routinely awarded contracts based on racially and gender driven goals to businesses on the basis of their owners’ race and gender.”
Through “Minority/Women Business Enterprise and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise” programs, Reedy Creek instituted gender and racial quotas to ensure contractors met a certain threshold of diversity.

The new CFTOD estimated that the district had to pay millions of dollars to find businesses that could comply.
The district further alleges that after entering into contracts, Reedy Creek would “aggressively monitor contractor’s racial and gender practices, wasting taxpayer dollars.”
Additionally, the board claims that the previous contracts threatened contractors who did not keep up with racial or gender quotas with nonpayment and disqualification from future bidding.

Those practices will now cease under the CFTOD.
“As the former head of the Central Florida Urban League. I can say definitively that our community thrives only when we work together despite our differences,” said Glizean.
