Disneyland Holding Auditions for Solo Jazz Pianist to Play Joe Gardner
An interesting audition has just cropped up on disneycareers.com and we thought we’d pass on the details! Disneyland is currently holding auditions for Solo Jazz Pianists to portray Joe Gardner from Pixar’s beloved film Soul.
According to the advert, the successful candidate must be able to play proficiently in the solo piano jazz style. You will be required to learn specific music. The performer must also be able to engage with guests in a way in keeping with the story of the film. Knowledge of jazz music and historical musicians is also a plus.

More About the Role – Joe Gardner
Joe Gardener is one of the main characters in the Disney/Pixar film SOUL. Joe is a middle-school band teacher from New York City with a love for teaching but yerns to play the jazz piano professionally. When a “misstep” takes him from the streets of NYC to “The Great Before” Joe gets a second chance at life and with it an eagerness to share his knowledge and talents with the world.
There will be multiple musician roles to play Joe Gardner available with a pay range between $41.18 per hour and $63.83 per hour, depending on role assignment. Roles are defined in the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) Collective Bargaining Agreement (Disneyland Resort and Orange County Musicians’ Union, Local No.7).
Candidates must be 18 years of age and have authorization to work in the United States. Applicants must also be available for an in-person callback on September 12, 2023, in Anaheim.
