This Day in Disney History- July 27
Welcome back to our magical journey through The Walt Disney Company’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- July 27.
July 27th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of a Pluto cartoon, a special day for D23 members, and the loss of a Disney Legend. So, let’s get going!
Canine Casanova Released (1945)
On this day in 1945, the Pluto cartoon Canine Casanova was released.
In the cartoon, Pluto is enamored by Dinah the dachshund, but unfortunately, she ignores him.
In the Bag Released (1956)
On this day in 1956, the Disney short In the Bag was released.
The film starred Humphrey the Bear and Ranger Audubon J. Woodlore, who had previously appeared in Donald Duck cartoons.
The Firehouse Five Plus Two Record At Disneyland (1962)
On this day in 1962, The Firehouse Five Plus Two was recorded at Disneyland’s Golden Horseshoe.
The Dixieland group was made up of writers, animators, producers, and directors at Walt Disney Studios. The group’s live performance at Disneyland would eventually be released as an album.
D23 Get One Last Ride On Disneyland’s Star Tours (2010)
On this day in 2010, D23 gave members a chance to ride Star Tours at Disneyland for one last time.
Although the attraction was closed to the public the day prior, D23 members got to take one last “Flight to Endor” before the attraction was refurbished.
Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja Airs (2015)
On this day in 2015, the Disney XD Series Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja aired its final episode.
The show ran for 50 episodes over two years before its cancellation.
Marty Sklar Passes Away (2017)
On this day in 2017, Disney Legend Marty Sklar passed away at 83.
Sklar joined the Walt Disney Company as the editor of Disneyland’s newspaper The Disneyland News. Eventually, he would join WED Enterprises and work on the Disney attractions at the 1964 World’s Fair.
After a run as Walt’s personal scriptwriter, Sklar would become the Vice President of concepts/planning at Walt Disney Imagineering, where he would lead the team to create EPCOT Center. Eventually, Sklar would also supervise the creation of Tokyo Disneyland, the Disney-MGM Studios, Disneyland Paris, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney California Adventure Park, Tokyo DisneySea, the Walt Disney Studios Park, and Hong Kong Disneyland. He retired at in July of 2009, but remained a Walt Disney Imagineering ambassador until his death.
