This Day in Disney History- July 25
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of The Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- July 25.
July 25th was a fairly busy day in Disney history, with the release of a Mickey Mouse cartoon, the closing of a Walt Disney World restaurant, and the loss of a Disney Legend. So, let’s get started!
Alice the Whaler Released (1927)
On this day in 1927, the Alice Comedy Alice the Whaler was released.
The film was the fourth and final time that Lois Hardwick would portray Alice.
Alpine Climbers Released (1936)
On this day in 1936, the Mickey Mouse cartoon Alpine Climbers was released.
The short was notable for being the only time that Donald Duck’s pet St. Bernard appeared.
The Earnest St. Marsh Starts Running At Disneyland (1959)
On this day in 1959, The Earnest S. Marsh locomotive took its inaugural run around Disneyland.
The train, which was named for the then-current president of the Santa Fe Railroad was driven by Walt Disney for its first run.
The Coral Island Cafe Closes (1998)
On this day in 1998, the Coral Island Cafe closed at Walt Dinsey World’s Polynesian Village Resort.
A staple of the resort since it opened in 1971, the restaurant would eventually reopen as Kona Cafe.
The Disney Institute Closes (2003)
On this day in 2003, The Disney Institute closed.
Originally opening in 1996, The Disney Institute allowed guests to take classes while vacationing at Walt Disney World.
Harriet Burns Passes Away (2008)
On this day in 2008, Disney Legend Harriet Burns passed away at age 79.
The first woman hired as a creative by Walt Disney Imagineering, Burns helped design classic Disney attractions including it’s a small world, The Carousel of Progress, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Sleeping Beauty Castle and the Haunted Mansion.
The Enchanted Tiki Room: Stitch Presents Aloha E Komo Mai! Opens (2008)
Also on this day in 2008, The Enchanted Tiki Room: Stitch Presents Aloha E Komo Mai! opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Adventureland.
The new version of the Enchanted Tiki Room featured Stitch from the popular Lilo and Stitch franchise.
Senses- A Disney Spa Opens (2013)
Finally, on this day in 2013, Senses- A Disney Spa opened at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort.
The two-story, full-service spa was inspired by the natural springs of upstate New York.
