This Day in Disney History: November 8th
November 8th, is another exciting day in Disney history! From fan favorite movies, to classic theme park rides, this day has it all!

Robin Hood Released
On this day in 1973, Disney’s Robin Hood was released in theaters!
Starring Brian Bedford, Phil Harris, and Andy Devine, the film was Disney’s 21st animated featured film. A twist on the classic English folk tale, Robin Hood featured anthropomorphic animals instead of humans.
Robin Hood would go on to be a box office success, and it would find a dedicated cult following among Disney fans. The film’s song “Love” would also be nominated for an Academy Ward for Best Original Song.
Big Thunder Mountain Officially Opens
On this day in 1980, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad officially opened in the Magic Kingdom! Although the coaster had been running since September, Grand Opening festivities were finally held on November 7.
Big Thunder Mountain would become an instant classic attraction. Due to its success in America, it would later be added to Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.
Disney and Siemens Reach Agreement
On this day in 2005, Disney announced that they had reached a market agreement with Siemens AG.
The deal would last for twelve years, and would result in Siemens becoming the official sponsor of Spaceship Earth and Illuminations: Reflections of Earth.
During the course of the strategic agreement, Siemens would also sponsor it’s a small world at Disneyland, the Osborne Family Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and nighttime parades at both Disneyland parks.
Thor: The Dark World Released
On this say in 2013, Thor: The Dark World was released in the theaters!
Marvel’s newest blockbuster, Thor: The Dark World was a sequel to the 2011 smash hit Thor. Starring Chris Hemsworth Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleson, the film tells the story of Thor’s conflict with the Dark Elf Malekith.
Due to the success of the film, sequels to Thor: The Dark World would be released in 2017 (Thor: Ragnarok) and 2022 (Thor: Love and Thunder).
