Disney Cruise Line Releases New Disney Treasure Details
Excitement is mounting over the latest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Treasure, which is expected to start whisking away travelers to fabulous destinations next summer! Disney released an update today with a timeline of all of the major milestones the ship has undergone as well as a look forward at excitement to come!
The first chapter in the Disney Treasure’s story began with the start of construction earlier this year in January 2023.

The team at Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany cut the first piece of steel for the Disney Treasure. A plasma cutter on the premises was used to cut the steel into a shape that would become the Disney Cruise Ship! The ceremony marked the start of the construction process for Disney Imagineers and crew!
One of the things that makes the steel-cutting ceremony such a momentous occasion is that it carries on a longtime maritime tradition. For hundreds of years, shipbuilders have honored the beginning of the construction process. The methodology and technology can change but the spirit of the tradition still lives on!

One of the things that makes a Disney Cruise ship so iconic is the red funnels that stand high on the top deck. The Disney Treasure will be joining the other members of the fleet as you can see from the images above taken from the shipyard in Germany. The funnel was actually made at another shipyard in Poland before heading to Germany. It’s early days but eventually, the funnel will feature the same bright red paint and be installed on the ship.

In March, the shipyard in Papenburg, Germany received a very exciting delivery from Rostock, German. The Disney Treasure’s Floating Engine Room or FERU is an integral piece of the Disney Treasure. When the Disney Treasure is finished, the FERU will serve as the main source of power, housing the main motors and liquified natural gas tanks. The FERU is also where you’ll find the auxiliary machinery needed for cooling water, fuel, air supply, and other integral systems.

A week later, it was another milestone for the Disney Treasure. If you’ll remember, this Spring we shared a first look at the Keel Laying Ceremony. As part of the ceremony, a newly minted coin is placed under the keel of the ship to foster good fortune for the ship and its crew in years to come.
Similar to the steel-cutting ceremony, keel-laying traditions date back to the times of wooden ships. The coin crafted for the event depicts a carved portrait of Captain Minnie Mouse, sporting a fashionable wearing new adventure-inspired out designed specifically for the Disney Treasure.

Each Disney Cruise Line fleet ship has its own signature piece of artwork embarked on its bow. Back in April, we shared that the Disney Cruise debuted the stunning filigree design that will appear on the bow of the Disney Treasure. The bow design also features Minnie Mouse wearing her new adventure-ready gear. Officially dubbed “Voyager Minnie” her new look was created especially for the Disney Treasure to continue the motif of adventure.

Three days after the bow artwork was revealed, the bow of the Disney Treasure made its way to Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. The bow arrived on April 18, 2023, on a barge that was pulled by a towboat. In the photo above, you can see the first step in the installation process for the ship’s bow filigree.

In mid-May, the bow of the Disney Treasure was mounted to the forward section of the ship. These photos show the shipbuilders carefully installing the bow block using a crane. The bow block was held in a position with the help of a high-precision laser scanner until it was fully welded to the foreship.
This marks the first time that the iconic silhouette of the ship can be recognized. As with all ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Treasure takes its inspiration from classic ocean liners of the early 20th century with a modern flair.

Similar to the other ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the tradition of bringing Broadway-style stage will continue aboard the Disney Treasure. Disney Imagineers and the crew at Meyer Werft shipyard can be seen in the image above, welding what will someday become The Walt Disney Theatre.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the bridge block was installed. The Disney Treasure bridge block contains important navigational equipment for the ship, including the wheel! The future captain and their crew will be able to control the ship’s direction and speed from the ship’s command center. The bridge also features floor-to-ceiling windows.
In celebration of all of these important Disney Treasure milestones, Disney has created a first-of-its-kind ship’s log that is launching today. The log, which you can find here will be your go-to source for Disney Cruise Line updates featuring important Disney Treasure milestones, exclusive looks, and more as the ship prepares to hit the high seas in 2024.
On the log, you’ll find details of many of the highlights posted above, updated posts from the shipyard at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, and a closer look at the ship’s Grand Hall inspired by the grandeur and mystery of the gilded palace from Aladdin.
There are going to be a ton of additional Disney Treasure updates on the way as we take you along a fantastic journey leading up to the day the ship sets sail in 2024.
