Welcome back to our continuing journey through Disney’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- July 11.
July 11th featured the release of a Donald Duck cartoon, the opening of a new gallery in Disneyland, and a milestone for Disneyland Paris. So, let’s get started!
Early to Bed Released (1941)
On this day in 1941, the Donald Duck cartoon Early to Bed was released.
In the cartoon, an annoyingly loud alarm clock keeps Donald up all night.
Donald’s Dilemma Released (1947)
On this day in 1947, the Donald Duck short Donald’s Dilemma was released.
In the cartoon, Donald is hit in the head by a flowerpot, which makes him more pleasant but also makes him forget Daisey.
How to Dance Released (1953)
On this day in 1953, the Goofy cartoon How to Dance was released.
The short featured characters based on the Firehouse Five Plus Two (Ward Kimball’s Dixieland band).
Disney Tries to Buy The Disneyland Hotel (1973)
On this day in 1973, Disney announced that it would be purchasing the Disneyland Hotel from the Wrather Corporation.
Unfortunately, the deal would fall through and it would take another 15 years for Disney to finally purchase the hotel.
EuroDisneyland Clears A Milestone (1986)
On this day in 1986, The Paris, France regional council approved plans for a Disneyland-style park in Marne-la Valee.

The Disney Gallery Opens (1987)
On this day in 1987, The Disney Gallery opened in Disneyland.
The space was originally intended to be a private apartment for Walt and Roy to entertain visiting dignitaries.
Disney Reaches Distribution Deal With Pixar (1991)
On this day in 1991, Disney announced that it would enter into a distribution deal with Pixar.
The partnership would lead to the creation of such films as Toy Story, A Bugs Life, Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo before Disney eventually bought the studio in 2006.
Magic Masters Opens (2001)
On this day in 2001, Magic Masters opened in Downtown Disney, Florida.
The new store was the largest Magic Masters magical emporium in the world.
The Perry the Platy-bus Leaves New York City
Finally, on this day in 2011, the Perry the Platy-bus left New York City’s Times Square for a cross-country tour.
The kickoff event featured singing dancing and free t-shirts!
