What A Difference A Year Makes
Last September, Badal took the stage at the Content Canada conference and told the audience that Disney was in search of original Canadian Content for the Hotstar component of Disney+. Hotstar, which is essentially an amalgamation of Hulu FX and Fox, is offered in many global markets.

While Azam was new to her role at the time, Badal gave out her email to those who wanted to send pitches.
“We did hire someone who’s actually in the audience. Her name is Stephanie,” Badal said, to cheers. “Does she have a reputation? Is it a good one? Yeah, okay. That’s how you would [pitch an idea]. You’re in much better hands with her than me.”

Disney Still Has No Original Canadian Content
In just a year, a lot has changed for Disney in Canada. Earlier this month, the company announced that it had paused original commissions in Canada.
While Disney is still reportedly in the market for Canadian originals. Those commissions would likely not occur until 2024.
