‘Elemental’ Shows Signs of Life With Strong Second Weekend
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse returned to the number one spot at the box office this weekend, hauling in $19.3 million.
Four weekends into its box office run, Across the Spider-Verse beat out more recent releases including Pixar’s Elemental, DC’s The Flash, and fellow Sony release, No Hard Feelings.
Good News For Pixar
For Pixar, the weekend box office returns were a breath of fresh air.
While Elemental struggled to attract audiences in its opening weekend, the film managed to win over the theatergoers that did go see it.

Pixar’s Elemental
The film currently holds an “A” CinemaScore and has benefited from strong audience reviews across multiple platforms.
Perhaps because of this word of mouth, Elemental managed to land in second place this weekend, bringing in $18.5 million. Ticket sales for the film’s sophomore outing were strong than anticipated, dropping by only 37%.
Elemental has now raised its domestic gross to $65 million, and global total to $121 million. With a $200 million budget, the film will need to continue to bring family audiences into theaters in order to break even.

Nevertheless, the strong second weekend was good news for the Pixar brand, which has been battered in recent years.
The Flash Bombs
For DC, the failure of The Flash to hold its audience was disastrous. The film saw a 73% decline in its second weekend, bringing in $15.3 million in domestic theaters.
The 200 million tentpole has now generated $87 million at the domestic box office and $123.3 million internationally for a worldwide total of $210.9 million.

With Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny set to hit theaters this weekend, there will be a shakeup at the top of the box office. For Across the Spider-Verse and Elemental, however, hanging in the top five will be key.
