Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today were are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- June 2.
June 2nd was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of a Donald Duck cartoon, the opening of a new Disney California Adventure attraction, and the dedication of an Epcot ride. So, let’s get going!
Commando Duck Released (1944)
On this day in 1944, the Donald Duck cartoon Comando Duck is released.
In the cartoon, Donald joins the Army and is dropped out of an airplane into enemy territory.
Journey Into Imagination With Figment Dedicated (2002)
On this day in 2002, Journey Into Imagination with Figment was dedicated.
The updated attraction saw the return of the popular EPCOT Center character Figment.
Destino Released (2003)
On this day in 2003, The Disney short Destino was released.
The six-minute story featured the work of painter Salvidor Dali, and told the story of Chronos and the ill-fated love he had for a mortal female.
The Even Stevens Final Episode Airs (2003)
Also on this day in 2003, the final episode of the Disney Channel series Even Stevens aired.
Eleven days later, the Even Stevens Movie would air, serving as the series finale.
The Little Mermaid- Ariel’s Undersea Adventure Opens (2011)
On this day in 2011, The Little Mermaid- Ariel’s Undersea Adventure opened at Disney California Adventure.
As part of a special ceremony, Jodi Benson performed Part of Your World from the film.
Willis Pyle Passes Away (2016)
Finally, on this day in 2016, Disney animator Willis Pyle passed away at the age of 101.
Pyle worked on Disney classics including Fantasia, Pinocchio, and Bambi.
