This Day in Disney History- May 29
Welcome back to our continuing journey through Disney’s history. On this Memorial Day, we want to take a moment to recognize all those who have served our country, and especially those who have paid the ultimate price, as well as their families.
Today we are looking at the events on this in Disney history- May 29.
May 29th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured a Tokyo Disneyland milestone, the release of a Pixar film, and a special moment for Star Wars fans. So, let’s get going!
Modern Inventions Released (1937)
On this day in 1937, the Donald Duck short Modern Inventions was released.
In the cartoon, Donald visits the “Museum of Modern Marvels” where he sees all kinds of futuristic appliances and inventions. Modern Inventions was Donald’s first solo cartoon.
Tokyo Disneyland Reaches Milestone (1991)
On this day in 1991, Tokyo Disneyland welcomed its 100-millionth guest.
Buzz Lightyear Visits Space (2008)
On this day in 2008, Disney and Nasa announced that Buzz Lightyear would be visiting space.
Lightyear took part in the Discvoery’s STS-124 mission.
Kris Allen Visits Walt Disney World (2009)
On this day in 2009, Kris Allen visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Fresh off his win on American Idol, Allen took part in a procession through the park, before appearing at the American Idol Experience.
Up Released (2009)
Also on this day in 2009, Disney and Pixar’s Up was released.
The film told the story of an unlikely friendship between a young boy named Russell and a crotchety old man named Carl. The duo go on an adventure to Paradise Falls.
New Disneyland Hotel Pool Opens (2011)
On this day in 2011, a new interactive water play area opened in the Disneyland Hotel.
The centerpiece of the new pool area featured Disneyland’s classic block signage and a monorail replica.
Star Wars Stars Visit Galaxy’s Edge (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2019, Billy Dee Williams, George Lucas, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill attended a pre-opening event for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
The Star Wars legends got to see the new land the day before it was opened to the public.
