‘The Little Mermaid’ Swims Fast To $10 Million in Previews
The Little Mermaid put its best fin forward in previews, racking in over $10 million.
Should the film be able to exceed $10.8 million, The Little Mermaid would have the 6th highest preview performance for PG or G rated title in motion picture history.

The Little Mermaid’s preview figure would also top Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin ($7 million) and Cinderella ($2.3 million). The film would fall behind 2017’s Beauty and the Beast which earned $16.3 million.
A Strong Start
So far, The Little Mermaid is off to a swimming start. The film is tracking towards a $125 million opening weekend. Additionally the live-action remake has received warm reviews from critics and fans alike.

The next question facing the Rob Marshall musical will be whether or not the film can grow legs. In order to keep pace with the likes of Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast, the film will have to avoid the kind of second-weekend drop-off that has plagued Marvel’s recent releases.
Halle Bailey Praised
Starring Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, and Jonah Hauer-King, the live-action remake has been praised for its cast. Bailey, in particular, has been lauded for her performance as Ariel.
