Ray Stevenson Star of Marvel’s Thor Films Has Passed Away at the Age of 58
It is with a heavy heart that we here at MickeyBlog share the news that British Actor Ray Stevenson, who you’ll know as Volstagg in Marvel’s Thor, has passed away at the age of 58.
Stevenson passed away on Sunday, May 1st, 2023 which, according to The Hollywood Reporter was just four days short of his birthday. As of going to print a cause of death has not been determined. However, we do know that Stevenson had been hospitalized on the island of Ischia while shooting a film.
Stevenson’s most recent role was as one of the main antagonists in the upcoming Star Wars series Ahsoka. The series is slated to debut on Disney+ in August.
The Irish actor played the role of Volstagg in Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and Thor: Ragnarok, The actor is also well-known for his roles as Titus Pullo from HBO’s Rome and Othere in the TV series Vikings.
Production had only just started on Cassino on Ischia in which Stevenson was to star as the lead, an older action movie star who hopes to put himself back on the map by making a “gritty” film.
Stevenson was previously married to English actress Ruth Gemmell but divorced in 2005. He is survived by his three children with Italian anthropologist Elisabetta Caraccia: Sebastiano, Leonardo, and Lodovico. Stevenson met Caraccia while shooting Rome. According to THR, she was the actor’s landlady!
