California Governor Thanks Disney for ‘Doing the Right Thing’
There’s been a lot of responses to the news that Disney has canceled their plans to relocate over 2,000 Imagineer jobs and develop a $1 billion campus in Lake Nona, Florida.
While the office of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis claimed to be unsurprised by the news, the Orange County Mayor attributed the cancelation to the ongoing conflict between the state of Florida and the business community. Now the California Governor is weighing in on the news.
Gavin Newsom’s Response to Lake Nona Cancelation
Not long after Disney announced that the Lake Nona campus plans were canceled, California Governor Gavin Newsom tweeted that “bigoted policies have consequences,” and welcomed back the 2000+ jobs that would return or remain in California.
Turns out, bigoted policies have consequences.
That's 2,000+ jobs that will be welcomed back with open arms to the Golden State.
Thank you for doing the right thing, @Disney. https://t.co/1wrN2Zmi9O

Governor Newsom also issued a statement, saying, “Authoritarian policies have consequences. This announcement is a victory for California, and the tens of thousands of Disney employees who know they can live in a state where they are respected and safe. Disney has invested billions of dollars in California, and we look forward to their increased investment and growth in our state.”
In his tweet, Newsom also thanked Disney for “doing the right thing.”
The authoritarian policies Newsom mentions in his statement likely reference recent legislature passed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, which you can read more about here.
The Walt Disney Imagineering headquarters will seemingly remain in Glendale, California, but we will have to wait and see if Disney plans to move or expand the campus elsewhere.
