Johnny Depp Makes Triumphant Return To Cannes
Johnny Depp made his triumphant return to the Cannes Film Festival for his opening night film Jeanne Du Barry.
In the embattled actor’s first public appearance since his protracted 2022 legal battle with ex-girlfriend Amber Heard, Depp received a seven-minute standing ovation.
Depp seemed to be holding back tears as the crowd in the South of France erupted into applause for his performance as King Louis XV in the film. The actor waved to the audience from the balcony, clearly moved by the response.
Throngs of Fans
Upon his arrival at Cannes, Depp was greeted by thousands of supportive fans who carried signs and tried to get as close to the actor as possible.
Depp for his part stopped at the fan line for an extended period before walking the red carpet, clearly apprecative of the support.
Jeanne Du Barry
Jeanne du Barry stars Maiwenn as Jeanne Vaubernier, a working-class woman in 18th-century France who rises through the social ranks and becomes King Louis XV’s lover.
The film marks Depp’s first high-profile acting role since the conclusion of his legal battle with Heard. Although the jury ruled in Depp’s favor, the actor remained distant from Hollywood following the abuse allegations that surfaced during the trial.
Although his standing in the United States remains unclear, one thing is certain, Johnny Depp is still the beau of the French.
