A New Animated Movie From The Sherman Brothers Is Coming!
Here is a story I never thought I would get a chance to report- a new film inspired by the music of the Sherman Brothers is under development.
Independent film producers Niegls Juul and Sherman Theatreal Entertainment are developing “Inkas the Ramerinkas”, a story about a small flying dinosaur into an animated feature film.
The film will be the first and final musical from the legendary Sherman Brothers. The songwriting duo was behind Disney classics The Jungle Book, Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
What Is Inkas the Ramferinkas
Inkas the Ramferinkas will be an 81-minute animated feature film starring a loveable prehistoric dove named Inkas and his mischievous dinosaur friends.
The film will feature songs written by the Sherman Brothers with a screenplay by the Sherman Brothers and Robbie Sherman.
The story will be set a hundred and fifty million years ago, during the Jurassic age, where viewers will meet a spirited little prehistoric bird named Inkas.
A Long and Storied Journey
Before teaming up with Walt Disney, the Sherman Brothers were adapting Inkas into a film that never took off. It was originally a 1951 children’s record that followed the adventures of a small flying dinosaur.
In the mid-2000s, Robert Sherman’s youngest son, Robbie, optioned and acquired “Inkas”. Together, the Sherman Brothers (and son) expanded the project into a feature-length animated script.
The brothers augmented their score with six additional songs, bringing the total to 10.
Though a draft of the film was completed, the project was shelved during the 2008 financial crisis.
Timeless Entertainment
“I grew up with ‘Inkas.’ And I knew all the characters and their songs by heart. I always believed that if the rest of the world were introduced to them, they would fall in love with them too,” said Robbie Sherman.
For their part, both Niles Juul and Andrew Kaplan are thrilled to be building on the Sherman Brothers’ legacy.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be partnering with Niels Juul, Sofie Nordstrom and No Fat Ego,” Andrew Kaplan said. “Niels wants to be a part of something positive. And that’s really what we’re all about too.”
Juul, the CEO of Los Angeles and London-based production company No Fat Ego, added, “It’s hard to imagine my childhood without the brilliant and fantasy-inducing musical tapestry of the Sherman Brothers and for me, all these decades later to be able to help Robbie and his team bringing their first musical work to the screen is not just an honor, but an offer that my inner child could not refuse. The Sherman Brothers are truly timeless. We look forward to exposing the world to even more of their iconic work.”
