Welcome back to our continuing journey through Disney’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- April 29.
April 29th featured the opening of a Walt Disney World resort, an honor for a Disney Legend, and the loss of a Disney World icon. So, let’s get started!
Pluto’s Sweater Released (1949)
On this day in 1949, the Pluto cartoon Pluto’s Sweater was released.
In the cartoon, Pluto has to swear a pink sweater that Minnie has knitted.
Something Wicked This Way Comes Released (1983)
On this day in 1983, Something Wicked This Way Comes was released.
Based on the Ray Bradbury novel, the movie told the story of two boys who encounter a sinister carnival, that lures people to their doom by promising to fulfill their childhood desires.
Disney-MGM Press Preview Held (1989)
On this day in 1989, the Disney-MGM Studios held a press preview.
On hand for the festivities were Audrey Hepburn, Bette Midler, Betty White, George Burns, and the Pointer Sisters.
Pendleton Woolen Mills Dry Goods Store Closes (1990)
On this day in 1990, Disneyland’s Pendleton Woolen Mills Dry Goods Store closed in Frontierland.
The shop would reopen as the Bonanza Outfitters in June 1991.
Disney’s All-Star Sports Opens (1994)
On this day in 1994, the first phase of Disney’s All Star Sports Resort Opened.
The resort’s Surf’s Up section was the first to open.
Mike Fink Keel Boats Closes (2001)
On this day in 2001, the Mike Fink Keel Boats closed at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
The attraction had been operating in the park since the Magic Kingdom opened on October 1, 1971.
Rolly Crump and Don Edgren Honored At Disneyland (2009)
On this day in 2009, former Imagineers Rolly Crump and Don Edgren were honored with windows on Main Street USA.
On hand for the festivities were family, friends, and fans of the two Disney Legends in addition to Marty Sklar and Disneyland Resort President Ed Grier.
Prom Released (2011)
On this day in 2011, Prom was released.
The story told the story of a group of teenagers going to their Prom and stared Aimee Teegarden, Nicholas Braun, Danielle Campbell and Cameron Monaghan.
The Earffel Tower Removed (2016)
On this day in 2016, Disney announced that the Earffel Tower had been completely removed.
The former icon of DIsney’s Hollywood Studios was removed to make space for Galaxy’s Edge.
