This Day in Disney History- April 28
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- April 28.
April 28th featured the debut of three new Disney cartoons, a sneak peek at a Walt Disney World Waterpark, and the opening of a new version of a Disney class. So, let’s get started.
Night Debuts (1930)
On this day in 1930, the Silly Symphony short Night debuted.
Directed by Walt Disney, Night shows the musical nighttime life of owls, fireflies frogs, and other inhabitants of an old mill pond.
Hockey Champ Released (1939)
On this day in 1939, the Donald Duck show The Hockey Champ was released.
In the cartoon, Donald plays a game of hockey with his nephews.
Trailer Horn Released (1950)
On this day in 1950, the Donald Duck cartoon Trailer Horn was released.
In the cartoon, Donald Duck’s peaceful day in the forest is ruined when Chip ‘n’ Dale find his trailer.
Typhoon Lagoon is Previewed (1989)
On this day in 1989, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon opened for a press preview.
Disney’s newest water park would eventually open on June 1.
Cinderella’s Royal Table Opens (1997)
On this day in 1997, King Stefan’s Banquet Hall was renamed Cinderella’s Royal Table.
Located inside Cinderella Castle, the new name made much more sense, as King Stefan was Sleeping Beauty’s father, not Cinderella.
Comcast Ends Its Bid to Buy Disney (2004)
On this day in 2004, Comcast announced that it had withdrawn its multi-billion dollar bid to buy The Walt Disney Company.
Although the hostile takeover ended, Disney CEO Michael Eisner continued to have problems.
It’s A Small World Opens in Hong Kong (2008)
On this day in 2008, It’s a small world opened in Hong Kong Disneyland.
modeled after its Disneyland counterpart, the new it’s a small world was the largest indoor attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland when constructed.
The Boys: The Sherman Brothers Story Premieres (2009)
On this day in 2009, The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Story premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival.
Produced and directed by cousins Jeff and Greg Sherman, the film featured interviews with many Disney Legends that the songwriting team worked with.
Fantasmic! Opens In Tokyo
On this day in 2011, Fantasmic! debuted at Tokyo DisneySea.
The third version of the show, the Tokyo DisneySea Fantasmic! would continue to run through 2020.
