Bob Igers Hints at Several Large Projects in the Works for Walt Disney World
If you are looking for new experiences at Walt Disney World, you are going to love this news! During today’s Annual Shareholder call, Bob Iger dropped the news that over the next 10 years, Disney will be investing 17 billion dollars into Walt Disney World.
So, what does this mean? While everything is still unconfirmed at this time, I have some ideas!
Before we get into what those ideas might be, let’s take a look at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge which is located in both Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Park at the Disneyland Resort.
Experts have guessed that the capital it took to build each of those lands was anywhere from 1 billion to 1.3 billion a piece. So, theoretically, if Disney is investing 17 billion dollars into Walt Disney World in the coming years, that could be enough to build 17 more lands!
While Walt Disney World probably won’t be introducing 17 new lands in the next 10 years, it does sound possible that they could be introducing some new lands in the coming years. Potential new lands for the Magic Kingdom were touched upon during last year’s D23 Expo. It was then that Disney said Villains-themed and Encanto-themed lands would be coming to the Parks.
There’s also a strong possibility that Disney will invest portions of that 17 billion dollar budget into reviving current lands in the theme parks as well as expanding others.
Rumors have been swirling for a while that big changes might be coming to Animal Kingdom once the overhaul at EPCOT wraps up after A Journey of Water: Inspired by Moana opens there in late 2023.
Some theories of what changes might be coming to Animal Kingdom over the next several years are a Moana land, a re-theming of DinoLand, an expansion of Pandora: The World of Avatar, and a Zootopia-themed land.
In addition to new lands and refreshing up old ones in the four Walt Disney World Theme Parks, this 17 billion dollar budget also could mean what everyone wants – a fifth theme park! Rumors have been swirling forever that one was in the works and depending on construction costs, 17 billion dollars could cover the bill for a fifth gate!
Another idea, that could be executed in the coming months and not much of a hit on that 17 billion, would be the return of a nighttime parade to the Magic Kingdom. The Main Street Electrical Parade is currently on a hiatus after most recently running at Disneyland but wouldn’t it be wonderful if it was making its way down Main Street U.S.A. in the coming months?!
While this is all speculation at this time and nothing has been confirmed by Disney, a 17 billion dollar investment into Walt Disney World over the next 10 years definitely means big things and big projects are on the horizon.
