Melissa McCarthy Helped Halle Bailey Deal With Pressures of Her Role in “The Little Mermaid”
During the Oscar’s Disney revealed the latest trailer for the live action version of The Little Mermaid which is slated to hit theaters on May 26, 2023. Unfortunately, the film has been shrouded in controversy since the announcement was made the actress/singer Halle Bailey was cast in the role of Ariel in the film. However, according to a recent piece on CNN, the actress is dealing with the pressures of the role with a bit of help from Ursula herself – Melissa McCarthy.
Bailey told CNN in a recent interview that the pressures of playing Ariel in the live-action remake of one of Disney’s most beloved films is scary and intimidating but that it has taught her to speak up and advocate for herself when in professional working environments.

Bailey went on to say that it was actually co-star Melissa McCarthy who helped her overcome her feelings while on set. “She was telling me, ‘Yeah, I had to learn. I wasn’t always this way, and when you’re young, you’re timid,’” Bailey, 22, said of the advice McCarthy gave her. McCarthy added that as she’s gotten older she’s learned to self-advocate or “speak up and (say) what works for” her.
Bailey added that it was great to watch McCarthy “come onto set and be just so comfortable with who she was in her skin and (to see) her standing up for herself.”
This confidence is not only helping Bailey handle criticism but also fight her fears on set when it comes to saying she needs a break or even some space to clear her head.
