This Day in Disney History- February 28
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- February 28.
February 28th featured the release of a Pluto cartoon, the debut of a classic 90s character and the loss of a Disney Legend. So, let’s get started.

Pluto, Junior Released (1942)
On this day in 1942, the Pluto short “Pluto, Junior” was released.

The cartoon featured Mickey’s loyal dog Pluto trying to take a nap, while his young son gets himself into trouble.
America Sings Weekend Held (1981)
On this day in 1981, Disneyland held “America Sings Weekend”.

Patriotic fever swept Disneyland as the park celebrated the country’s past. As part of the festivities, guests could get their photo taken with Sam the Eagle.
Bonkers Premiers (1993)
On this day in 1993, Bonkers premiered on The Disney Channel.

The cartoon was inspired by Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and featured an out of work cartoon bobcat who joins the Hollywood Police Department.
Star Tours Re-Dedicated (1997)
On this day in 1997, Star Tours was re-dedicated at Disneyland.
On the attraction’s 10 year anniversary, Chewbacca and Carrie Fisher cut the ribbon with a light saber.
Bug Juice Premieres (1998)
On this day in 1998, Bug Juice premiered on The Disney Channel.

The reality show featured the experiences of 20 kids at summer camp.
Test The Limits Opened (2003)
On this day in 2003, Underwriter Laboratory’s Test the Limits opened in Epcot.

Located in Innoventions, the exhibit would operate until January 6, 2015.
Earl of Sandwich Opens (2004)
On this day in 2004, The Earl of Sandwich Shop opened at Downtown Disney.

The shop was founded by Earl of Sandwich founder John Montagu, and Robert Earl the executive officer of Planet Hollywood.
Jack Lindquist Passes Away (2016)
On this day in 2016, Disney Legend Jack Lindquist passed away.

Lindquist was originally hired by Walt Disney as Disneyland’s advertising manager just before the park opened in July 1955.
In 1990, Lundquist was named president of Disneyland.
Shop Class Premiers (2020)
On this day in 2020, Shop Class premiered on Disney +.

The new reality show brought teams of students and teachers together to compete for the title of Shop Class Champion.
Magic Happens Premiers (2020)
Also on this day in 2020, the all-new Magic Happens parade debuted at Disneyland.
The park’s daytime parade, Magic Happens features magical moments from beloved Disney stories.
Fantasmic! Closes In Tokyo DisneySea (2020)
Finally, on this day in 2020, Fantasmic! closed at Tokyo DisneySea.

The nighttime spectacular featured fireworks, live actors, pyrotechnics, lasers and audio-animatronics to tell an epic story of good versus evil.
