What Will Disney Be Like in August 2023
School’s still out, you’ve got summer vacation days at work, and you’re ready to visit Walt Disney World!
Yes, the summer’s a terrific time to visit Walt Disney World. What will Disney be like in August 2023? Here’s what we know…
Let’s Talk about August Visits
Perhaps no time on the annual calendar provides better vacation opportunities than August.
The only students with classes at the month’s beginning are those in summer school or at year-round educational facilities.
Meanwhile, most businesses expect their workers to vacation at some point during the summer and build the schedule around this practice.
So, you’ll enjoy plenty of time and opportunities to visit Walt Disney World.
The downside here involves societal behavior. Everyone else falls into the same bucket as you. They’re just as likely to visit as you are.
Not coincidentally, early August has historically been one of Disney’s busiest periods of the year.
Now that schools have started earlier across North America, the crowds die down by the middle of the month, though.
Those of you traveling without children will find stunningly few crowds. In fact, late August has evolved into a sneaky-good time to visit Walt Disney World!
Let’s Talk about the Weather
Look, you’re a smart person. Presuming you live in the Western Hemisphere, you understand how temperatures work in the south in August. It’s hot.
Central Florida adds a welcome element that can cool down a scorcher of a day, though. This region is prone to rainy weather, which is a blessing during the summer months.
You’ll genuinely appreciate a few showers to lower the temperatures.
How hot does Orlando get? Honestly, it’s not as rough as areas closer to the coastline.
Still, the average high temperature in Orlando in August is in the 90s. Notably, this region starts hotter earlier in the month.
So, you’re more likely to discover warmer temperatures during the first ten days of August than toward the end of the month.
Since many of you will visit before school starts, that’s admittedly not the greatest news.
Generally, high temperatures here range from 85 to 94 degrees, while lower temperatures generally fall between 73 and 78 degrees.
Effectively, you could reasonably assume a high of 90 and a low of 76 during your park visit.
As for the rainy weather, the odds are ever in your favor. Orlando faces overcast skies nearly two out of every three days in August on average.
Similarly, the odds of a rainy day hover in the 65 percent range as well.
In other words, you should plan a few strategies for indoor attractions during the hottest time of the day, which is from noon to four p.m.
Also, you should know which attractions close when it rains.
Let’s Talk about Disney Events in August
First, let’s start with the temporary event that’s a one-time-only thing. No, I don’t mean the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World. That ended on April 1st.
Instead, I’m referencing Disney100, a legitimately once-in-a-lifetime event happening at Disney theme parks around the world.
The Walt Disney Company turns 100 in October, but Disney isn’t waiting until then to throw itself a party!
During Disney100, you’ll find unique food, beverages, and merchandise that will never appear at the parks again.
Obviously, you don’t want to miss Disney100 due to its historic nature. On the other hand, Disney has focalized the event at Disneyland Resort.
If you’re going specifically for Disney100, I’d recommend Anaheim rather than Orlando.
Of course, you’re probably NOT vacationing at Walt Disney World because of Disney100. It’s just a nifty bonus.
Conversely, you might visit for the big festival.
At some point in July, the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival will debut. It’ll be in full swing by the time you arrive in August.
Plus, Disney has recently held back some of the food booths until late August.
Those who wait until the third week of the month may get bonus menu items!
Many Disney fans consider Food & Wine a destination vacation option.
You’ll find cheap but delicious cuisine here, which is a combo that’s rare at any theme park on the planet.
The other new offering we should discuss is Tron Lightcycle Power Run. The high-tech roller coaster debuts in early April.
So, when you visit anytime this summer, you can take a spin on the new pride of Tomorrowland.
Here’s video so that you know what to expect:
Let’s Talk about Central Florida Events in August
The greater Orlando area features any number of entertainment options.
Your choice comes down to whether you’re willing to leave the Disney Bubble to experience any of it.
Other theme parks are drivable or cheap ride-shares away from Disney. Similarly, metropolitan Orlando celebrates the arts and professional sports.
The Orlando Magic won’t be playing in August, which robs you of a chance to watch breakout superstar Paulo Banchero play. There’s always the next visit, though!
Orlando City SC, the professional soccer team, will play at least three matches in August. One will likely be a home game.
Also, the University of Central Florida Knights play their first home game of 2023 on August 31st if you’re interested.
As for the fine arts, Dr. Phillips Center doesn’t currently list any plays or concert hall events in August. That’s a bit unusual.
I guess the arena could be performing renovations that month. It’s more likely that the schedule hasn’t been announced yet, though.
However, I’ll stress that if you want to attend a music concert, Food & Wine in August will include free performances with park admission.
None of these acts will be particularly relevant in 2023, but if you love nostalgia performances from Boys II Men and the like, it’s a strong option.
Final Thoughts
Let’s acknowledge the obvious. Parents with school-aged children have limited options for a Disney vacation.
You can visit while your kids are out of school. Period. So, the first two weeks of August effectively count as your last chance at a summer vacation.
The good news here is that the crowds die down some when July ends.
Plus, if you possess some flexibility with the school schedule, you can vacation later in August.
That’s the sweet spot when the crowds grow smaller. You shouldn’t let the crowds worry you, though.
Options like Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane ensure you can experience as much as you want during your trip.
Similarly, the rain regulates the summer weather enough that you’ll have a fantastic time!
