This Day in Disney History- February 11
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today, we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- February 11.
February 11th was a big day for Disney animation! Pooh had two movies, a live action classic was released, and the a Donald short premiered! So, let’s get started!
The Grocery Boy Released (1932)
On this day in 1932, the Mickey Mouse short The Grocery Boy was released.
The cartoon featured Walt Disney as the voice of Mickey Mouse, who goes shopping for Minnie, but is late bringing back her groceries.
Self Control Released (1938)
On this day in 1938, the Donald Duck cartoon Self Control was released.
Directed by Jack King, the short features Donald trying to control his temper by following the advice of a radio program!
No Deposit, No Return Released (1976)
On this day in 1976, No Deposit, No Return was released.
Starring David Niven, Darren McGavin, and Don Knotts, the film tells the story of two would-be safe crackers, who help fake the kidnapping of two grandchildren in order to get ransom money.
The Tigger Movie Released (2000)
On this day in 2000, The Tigger move was released.
Narrated by John Hurt, the film told the story of Tigger’s search through the Hundred-Acre-Woods for his family. The Tigger movie also featured five new songs by the Sherman Brothers!
Pooh’s Heffalump Movie Opens In Theaters (2005)
On this day in 2005, Pooh’s Heffalump Movie opens in theaters.
In the film, Roo discovers a a young Heffalump named Lumpy and befriends him.
Mickey’s Toontown Fair Closed (2011)
Finally, on this day in 2011, Mickey’s Toontown Fair closed at Walt Disney World.
The land originally opened in 1988 as Mickey’s Birthdayland, before being turned into Mickey’s Starland, and eventually Mickey’s Toontown Fair. The land was closed to make way for the the Fantasyland expansion.
