This Day in Disney History- February 10
Welcome back to our continuing foray through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- February 10.
February 10th was slower day in Disney history. It did however, feature a monumental birthday, the release of Pluto cartoon, and premiere of a Disney sequel! So, let’s get started!
The Grasshopper and the Ants Released (1934)
On this day in 1934, The Grasshopper and the Ants was released.
Disney’s newest Silly Symphony, short told the story of a lazy grasshopper who prefers to sing and dance rather than prepare for winter like the nearby ants.
Pluto and the Gopher Released (1950)
On this day in 1950, Pluto and the Gopher was released.
Directed by Charles Nelson, the short features Pluto trying to rid Minnie’s garden of a pesky gopher.
Robert A. Iger Born (1951)
On this day in 1951, Robert A. Iger was born in Long Island, New York.
After beginning his career at ABC, on February 25, 1999, Disney named Iger president of Walt Disney International. In 2005, he was named President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company!
The Rainbow Mountain Stagecoach Closes (1960)
On this day in 1960, Disneyland’s Rainbow Mountain Stagecoach attraction closed.
The opening day Disneyland attraction, guests could ride shotgun, or ride inside the coach, to see sights of Frontierland.
Candleshoe Released (1978)
On this day in 1978, Disney released Candleshoe.
The film starred Helen Hayes, David Niven and Jodie Foster. In the movie, a small time crook discovers that the old manor house where Lady St. Edmund resides with three orphans and her butler is full of treasure.
Return To Neverland Premiers (2002)
On this day in 2002, Return to Neverland premiered in New York City
The sequel to 1953’s Peter Pan, the film follows the adventures of Wendy’s daughter, Jane, who is mistakenly brought to Neverland.
Bill Justice Passes Away (2011)
Finally, on this day in 2011, Disney Legend Bill Justice passed away of natural causes.
After Justice started at the Walt Disney company in 1937, he worked Fantasia, Bambi and Alice in Wonderland.
In 1965, Justice made the jump to WED Enterprises, where he became one of the early Imagineers. He retired from the company in 1979.
