This Day in Disney History- February 6
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- February 6.
Objectively speaking, February 6th was a big day for Kurt Russel, who had two Disney films released! We also had the debut of a classic animated feature and the Disney company officially changed their name! So, let’s get going.
The Ol’ Swimmin’ Hole Released (1928)
On this day in 1928, the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon The Ol’ Swimmin’ Hole was released.
In the cartoon, Oswald and his friends relax at the swimming hole.
Saludos Amigos Released (1943)
On this day in 1943, Saludos Amigos was released in the United States.
Disney’s latest feature film was made up of four animated segments all set in Latin America. In Lake Titicaca, Donald Duck visited the border of Peru and Bolivia. Pedro was about a small airport in Chile. El Gaucho Goofy featured American cowboy Goofy in the Andes mountains, ad finally Jose Caricoa debuted in Aquarela do Brasil.
The Big Wash Released (1948)
On this day in 1948, the Goofy cartoon The Big Wash was released.
In the new animated short, Goofy stars as a circus employee who must take care of the troupe’s elephants.
The Strongest Man In The World Released (1975)
On this day in 1975, The Strongest Man in the World was released.
The film starred Kurt Russell reprising his role as Dexter Reilly, a student at Medfield College. In the film, Riley and his friends discover a new chemical that gives anyone superhuman strength when mixed with cereal!
Disney and Lucasfilm Reach Agreement (1985)
On this day in 1985, Disney and Lucasfilm reached an agreement that would have Lucasfilm develop new attractions for Disney’s theme parks.
Star Tours, Indiana Jones Adventure, and the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular would all be created as a result of this agreement.
Walt Disney Productions Becomes The Walt Disney Company (1986)
On this day in 1986, Walt Disney Productions officially changed its name to The Walt Disney Company.
The studio had previously been known as Disney Brothers Studio (1923-1926), Walt Disney Studio (1926-1929) and finally Walt Disney Productions from 1920 until 1986.
Miracle Released (2004)
On this day in 2004, Walt Disney pictures released Miracle.
The film told the story of the 1980 United States men’s hockey team, which won a gold medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics. Miracle starred Kurt Russell as coach Herb Brooks.
Cinderella III: A Twist in Time Released (2007)
On this day in 2007, Cinderella III: A Twist in Time was released direct-to-video.
A sequel to the 1955 Disney animated classic, in the film, Lady Tremaine uses the Fairy Godfather’s wand to go back in time and enlarge Cinderella’s glass slipper so that it instead fit Anastasia’s foot.
Miles From Tomorrowland Debuts (2015)
Finally, on this day in 2015, Miles From Tomorrowland debuted on Disney Junior.
The CGI animated series told the story of the Casllisto family, who live don a spaceship in the year 2501.
