The Haunted Mansion: Storm & Shade
Although Gray visited Disney World’s Haunted Mansion when she was young, it was the ride’s west coast version that stuck with her. She shares “the real inspiration came when I realized that the Disneyland Haunted Mansion is canonically located in my very own city of New Orleans.”

The “perfect setting” for the ghastly tale, she refers to it as “a magical place with its own folklore.” Audrey is the book’s main character.
After a move from the suburbs, she’s getting used to her new location in the city. As she adjusts to a different life, she seeks therapy for her battle with anxiety attacks.

A mansion down the road is not helping in the matter. Although terrifying at first, she ends up learning that even ghosts get scared sometimes.
When asked to pick her favorite of the 999 Happy Haunts, Gray refused. She didn’t want to “risk ticking off the other 998 Haunts by not picking them.”
