Avatar: The Way of Water Leads Box Office For 5th Straight Week
Apparently thirteen years is not too long to wait for a sequel. Avatar: The Way of Water has been a massive success for the Walt Disney Company, which based their purchase of Fox of the viability of James Cameron’s franchise.
After topping the box office for a fifth straight weekend, The Way of Water now sits at $562 million dollars domestically, which is good for 13th all time.

More impressively however has been the way the film has been received overseas. Avatar: The Way of Water has now passed $1.89 billion dollars at the global box office, which puts the film firmly in the top ten of all time, at number 7.

When the Resources Development Administration returns to the planet, to prepare Pandora for human colonization, the family must once again defend thier home.
A Long Run
While Avatar: The Way of Water missed projections on its opening weekend, the film has proved to have long legs at the box office. This weekend the film had the second largest 5th weekend of all time, behind only the original Avatar film.

Strong word of mouth and good critical reviews may have helped The Way of Water have such a long run at the box office. The film is currently certified fresh on Rotten Tomato’s and holds at 92% audience score.
The $2 Billion Mark
After another strong weekend, The Way of Water will break the $2 billion dollar mark this week, giving Disney is fourth film to reach the milestone. More importantly however, $2 billion is what director James Cameron (jokingly?) said the film would need to make to break even.

Based on the success of Avatar: The Way of Water, all of Cameron’s other planned sequels are now a go, so we will definitely be seeing more of Pandora soon!
