This Day in Disney History- January 14
Welcome back to our continuing journey though the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- January 14!
January 14th featured the release of an award winning Donald Duck cartoon, the advent of the FastPass +, and the debut of the Person of the Century. So, let’s get into it!
No Hunting Released (1955)
On this day in 1955, the Donald Duck short No Hunting was released.
Directed by Jack Hannah, the short features Donald going hunting after being inspired by his pioneer ancestors. The cartoon would eventually be nominated for an Academy Award.
EPCOT Center Person of the Century Opens (1990)
On this day in 1990, EPCOT Center’s Person of the Century attraction opened in CommuniCore West.
At the attraction, guests were given the opportunity to chose between 89 nominees to determine the most influential person of the last 90 years. Unfortunately, the attraction was removed before the results of the polling were revealed!
A Dolphin Lands in Walt Disney World (1990)
Also on this day in 1990, the first of the two dolphins were placed atop the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort.
The resort would eventually open in June of 1990.
Winder Wonderland Debuted (2013)
On this day in 2013, Winter Wonderland began at Epcot.
The Limited Time Magic event allowed guests to experience falling snow and meet Disney characters in the Canada pavilion.
FastPass + Debuts (2014)
On this day in 2014, the Fast Pass+ debuted at the Magic Kingdom.
Disney’s new reservation system gives guests the ability to reserve three rides a day, up to two months in advance. The system would eventually spread to the other three Walt Disney World parks.
