This Day in Disney History- January 8
Welcome back to our trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today were are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- January 8.
January 8th was a lighter day in Disney history. We had a ton of closures on the west cost however, including the end of a trio of popular Disney’s California Adventure attractions! So, lets get into it!
Mickey Mouse Club Circus Closes (1956)
On this day in 1956, The Mickey Mouse Club Circus closed in Disneyland.
The 75 minute circus show originally opened in November of 1955. It featured a cast of well-known Mousketeers and circus performers.
Chicken Plantation Restaurant Closes (1962)
On this day in 1962, the Chicken Plantation Restaurant closed in Frotierland. Sponsored by Swift’s Premium Meats, the restaurant served fried chicken dinners.
The Chicken Plantation Restaurant was closed to help make room for New Orleans Square.
Paint the Night Ends (2017)
On this day in 2017, Paint the Night was performed for the final time at Disneyland.
The spiritual successor to the Main Street Electrical Parade, the nighttime procession originally debuted at Hong Kong Disneyland before coming to Disneyland. Eventually the parade would also run at Disney’s California Adventure.
California Screamin’ Closes (2018)
On this day in 2018, California Screamin’ closed at Disney’s California Adventure. The opening day attraction was closed to make way for the Incredibles themed Incredicoaster
Games of Pixar Pier Close (2018)
Also on this day in 2018, the Games of Pixar Pier closed.
The four boardwalk games were initially known as the Games of the Boardwalk when the park opened in 2001. The games would eventually reopen.
Mickey’s Fun Wheel Closes (2018)
Finally, on this day in 2018, Mickey’s Fun Wheel also closed.
The large Ferris Wheel would eventually be rethemed and renamed Pixar Pal-A-Round.
