New “Witch Mountain” Series Greenlit for Disney +
Disney + has greenlit a new pilot based on the popular “Witch Mountain” film franchise.
The new series is set to star Bryce Dallas Howard ( “Jurassic World”) and will also feature Isabell Gravitt, Levi Miller, Bianca “b” Norwood and Jackson Kelly.
For those who don’t know, the “Witch Mountain” franchise began in 1975 with Disney’s Escape to Witch Mountain. That film would eventually spawn two sequels, Return to Witch Mountain (1978) and Beyond Witch Mountain (1982).
Disney would then go on to remake the original Escape to Witch Mountain twice, once in 1995 and again in 2009.
The new Disney + series will not be a continuation of the previous installments in the franchise. Instead, it will be a “modern take” on the story. According to Disney, the new show will follow “two teens that develop strange abilities and discover their sleepy suburb may not be as idyllic as it seems.”
Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett Director Augustine Frizzell has signed on to direct and executive produce the pilot. The series was written by Travis Fickett and Terry Matalas.
In the new series Gravatt will play Tia, a “straight-A student who’s regarded by her classmates as ‘perfect'”. Howard meanwhile will star as Tia’s mother.
Miller will portray Ben who is a “a troubled teen who makes ends meet by writing papers for other students but he’s got a hot temper and if he slugs another student, he’ll be expelled.”
Norwood will play Corey who is Ben’s closest friend. While Kelly plays Peter who is described a Tia’s closest male friend who is also secretly in love with her.
