Iger Celebrates the Return of Oswald the Rabbit! He shared on December 1st, “It was so great to bring Oswald back to Disney and finally, this great short! And thanks @AlMichaelsOnThe!!”
Oswald The Lucky Rabbit Returns
For the first time in over 95 years, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit returns to Walt Disney Animation Studios and stars in an all-new animated short.
The brand new short, titled Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, is directed by animator Eric Goldberg and produced by Dorothy McKim.
The Iconic Rabbit
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is an iconic part of Disney history and considered Walt’s first breakout animated star. The fun loving rabbit is also one of the first animated characters to feature a unique personality.
Oswald first appeared in 1927 with the short Trolley Troubles and went on to “star” in 26 Oswald short films created by Walt Disney and his team. Unfortunately, Disney lost creative control over Oswald.
Bob Iger was instrumental in bringing back this iconic character. He negotiated with NBCUniversal allowing sportscaster Al Michaels to contract with NBC in exchange for Oswald to return to his rightful home.
Oswald has made multiple appearances including video games, merchandise, an animated short, and in the Walt Disney theme parks in the past few years.
And today, Iger and Disney fans around the globe celebrate his return!
