Disney+ Finally Supports 4K HDR Playback on the PS5
When it comes to a popular gaming system, Disney has been playing catch up with its competitors. But now, Disney+ finally supports 4K HDR playback on the PS5!
To some, picture quality is of utmost importance regarding viewable material. Disney fans and gamers will be excited to hear that the PlayStation 5 is finally offering Disney’s streaming service at its highest quality.
Disney’s Streaming Competitors
The Verge reports that Netflix, Amazon, and HBO Max already offer 4k HDR playback in their PS5 streaming services. Since the PlayStation 5 premiered, Disney has been running its PS4 app.
The new software has been created specifically for the PS5. Previously, Disney+ was only able to provide 1080p for viewers.
Downloading the App
Fans that enjoy watching their favorite movies and shows through the console can now view them in pristine form. Those interested in downloading the new Disney+ app on their PS5 can head to the media section of the home screen.
PS5 gamers in Latin America can download the Star+ app. The official website describes the app, “Star+ is a standalone general entertainment and sports streaming service in Latin America. It is complementary to, but independent from Disney+ in the region.”
Jerrell Jimerson, EVP of product and design for Disney streaming, explains, “A key part of our global expansion strategy is to meet consumers wherever they are, which is why we’re excited to enhance both Disney Plus and Star Plus for PlayStation 5 users.”
He further stated, “The ability to support 4K HDR video streaming on the platform will also improve the viewing experience for fans.” Unfortunately, the upgrade does not apply to those on a PS4 Pro.
The Verge confims that “Disney Plus will remain stuck at full HD resolution there.” We’re glad to see Disney step it up and finally offer the high quality PS5 fans have been waiting for.
