REVIEW: A Festival of Fall Flavors at Hops and Barley
The fall season is officially upon us, and Walt Disney World’s Food and Wine Festival is one of the best ways to savor the flavors of the season! Featuring a multitude of food and beverage offerings, the Festival kiosks around Epcot feature dishes and sips for every palette.
We made our way to Hops and Barley (in the America Pavilion) to taste their fall-inspired menu items…and our taste buds were certainly not disappointed!
Drinks
Let’s start with the drinks. Both the Longevity Chardonnay and Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale screamed ‘fall’ to us, so we placed an order for both!
Chardonnay is one of the heavier white wines, and Longevity’s buttery flavor and rich finish makes this one perfect for cooler weather.
The flavors are well reflected in the name of the beer: Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale. The beer struck a good balance of not being overly hoppy while maintaining several layers of deep flavor.
At first sip, the hops and traditional ‘beer’ flavor are prevalent, but a lovely pumpkin flavor lingers long after you’ve finished drinking making this an excellent choice for the season!
Dessert
The warm carrot cake with melty cream cheese frosting truly…well, took the cake for us!
Our cake was served warm, and the fact that the frosting was added to-order ensured our cake was not soggy and maintained its sponginess. The cake’s cinnamon-y, not-too-sweet flavor combined wonderfully with the sweet frosting, creating the perfect balance.
We were fortunate to receive a generous helping of frosting and dunked our cake into every bit of it! Overall, the flavors of Hops and Barley are perfect for the season, and we will certainly be back for more before the Festival is over!
