Will Smith Makes a Humorous Return to Social Media
After the Oscar slap heard around the world, the rapper, actor, and producer, Will Smith has made his return to social media via Instagram.
The Backstory
Unless you live under a rock, you remember this year’s live broadcast of the Academy Awards in which Will Smith struck comedian Chris Rock.
Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and her short hair. Smith then walked onstage and slapped Rock across the face.
It’s important to note that Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from hair loss and had publicly discussed her journey with alopecia.

In July, Smith posted an apology video that is captioned, ‘Thanx y’all.’ In the video, he apologizes to Rock, ‘Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.’
Return to Social Media
More recently, the actor who played the fun-loving genie in Disney’s live action remake of ‘Aladdin’ has posted two videos to Instagram over the last three days.
First, Smith shared a humorous and symbolic video of a baby gorilla annoying an adult gorilla by repeatedly tapping the adult gorilla’s backside. Text overlay on the video says, ‘Me trying to get back on social.’
Presumably, this is Smith’s attempt to see what response he’ll get as he tentatively makes his social media return.

Second, Smith shared a video of an encounter with a tarantula in his California home. Smith is with his son, Trey.
Smith tells his son from safely atop a chair, ‘C’mon, you’re young and strong, you can handle the bite.’ Trey responds with a face that reads, ‘Are you serious!?’
The spider is safely trapped under a glass cup and safely released.

Ultimately, the father and son duo wax on about the size of the spider and the unpleasant experience. Smith then ends with a joke, ‘We’re selling the house.’
After four months of laying low and trying to work on himself, Will Smith’s humorous return to social media might be just what we all need.
Smith ended his public apology video to Rock with a message to his supporters, ‘I am deeply devoted and committed to putting light and love and joy into the world. And, you know, if you hang on, I promise we’ll be friends again.’
