Imagineer Shares Some of the Amazing Details that Went Into Norway Pavilion at EPCOT
If you’re not already following along with Imagineer Zach Riddley on Instagram then head over there now and hit that follow button. His account is a treasure trove of awesome Disney insights and today he’s visiting one of my favorite places- The Norway Pavilion at EPCOT.
As Zach tells us, much of the inspiration for the aesthetics of the Pavilion comes from the countryside of Trondheim which was an original settlement and trading post that dates all the way back to the time of the Vikings!
For many families in Norway, it is customary to have a summer home in order to escape the hustle and bustle of city life if only periodically. With that in mind The Royal Sommerhus was created as Elsa and Anna’s summer home and it includes lots of wonderful details that you’ll want to keep an eye out for next time you head over to the World Showcase to visit your friends from Frozen.
The journey starts the minute you walk into the Foyer. Be on the lookout for portraits that provide guests with a bit of insight into the Royal Family of Arendelle.
In order to make the Summerhaus feel similar to the Castle we see in the film, Walt Disney Imagineering brought in an authentic award-winning Norwegian-American rosemaler to help design all of the rosemailing (decorative folk painting.) He helped identify the colors and patterns that would typically be used in different regions of Norway and incorporate that into the design.
As with many locations throughout Walt Disney World, Imagineers, when possible incorporated many authentic pieces into the Greeting Anteroom. This includes copper kettles, a wooden credenza, matching hutch and more. Next time you’re at EPCOT see if you can find the date 1796.. That’s actually the fabrication date for the credenza! How incredible is that!?
