Celebrating 92 Years of Our Best Pal Pluto!
On August 6, 1930, Pluto made his first appearance in The Chain Gang. Animation has come a long way in almost 100 years, but you will be shocked to see just how much Pluto has changed!
Let’s just say he’s not exactly Mickey’s pal in this first short!
Over the years Pluto has become the world’s best doggo. Between the years 1930 and 1960, Goofy appeared in get this… over 89 short films!
Some of Pluto’s shorts were even nominated for Academy Awards, like The Pointer (1939), Squatter’s Rights (1946), Pluto’s Blue Note (1947), and Mickey and the Seal (1948).
Behind the Collar
FUN FACT: Pluto is currently voiced by an actor named Bill Farmer. Why is this a fun fact? Because he also voices another famous Disney character… Bill Farmer is also the voice of Goofy.
Listen… Goofy and Pluto lead very different lives and yet have a lot of similarities. Not only do they have the same “voice”, but their heads were designed the same! Just replace the buck teeth and boom! Pluto.
RANDOM THOUGHT: So, if Pluto is celebrating 92, shouldn’t we really be celebrating his dog years? That’s a whopping 644 in dog years! He’s no spring chicken, huh?
My head is still spinning on the Goofy/Pluto thing. Since Goofy is also a dog, does he celebrate his birthday is dog years or…?
Dog vs. Planet
DID YOU KNOW that the “planet” Pluto was actually discovered the same year as Pluto the pooch’s first debut? His name was no accident!
Mind you, Pluto was a nameless dog in his first short film, but Disney confirmed that he was named after the newly discovered planet, because they realized that they had a newly discovered pal for Mickey.
Did you think Goofy was the only Disney dad? NOPE!
There must be something in the dog water because Pluto also has puppies! In fact, there was a short film called “Mr. and Mrs. Pluto”. Wonder what ever happened to the Mrs.
Cheers to the Years!
We raise a bone to the pup of the hour! Here’s to 92 more years!
In 8 years when you turn 100, there’s going to be the ultimate puppy party!
