Not-To-Be-Missed Tween Experiences at Walt Disney World
With Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration is well underway and with it new attractions, experiences and more! That’s why there’s never been a better time to take your tweens on a Disney getaway. To give you a taste of the fun that awaits here are some Disney activities that your older children are sure to love!
Attractions That Bring The Thrills
Though the first thing that may come to mind when you think of a Disney getaway are youngster friendly rides like Peter Pan’s Flight and “it’s a small world,” each of Disney’s theme parks have rides that bring the thrills! One of my favorites is Expedition Everest -Legends of the Forbidden Mountain in Animal Kingdom. You’ll scale the heights of Everest for a hair-raising encounter with the infamous Yeti! Others include Space Mountain, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
Rides With an Element of Competition
You can also add a competitive element with rides like Toy Story Many or Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin where you can square off and see who gets the high score.
The Best Snacks Ever
Disney World has some of the BEST snacks. Tell your tween to bring their appetites to try out the Dole Whips, Mickey’s Premiums Ice Cream Bars, churros, popcorn and more! Also, if you’re lucky enough to visit EPCOT during one of there four annual festivals you can enjoy goodies from around the world at the outdoor kitchens.
Marvel Madness
This Summer marked the debut of one of Walt Disney World’s biggest thrill rides and its at EPCOT! Tweens can take off on an intergalactic chase through space and time on this all-new family thrill coaster. Not only do many of your favorite Guardians friends make a cameo on this Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind but the ride also has the distinction of being the longest fully enclosed coaster in Disney theme park history.
The ride vehicles are also the first of their kind in that they rotate and turn you as your progress through the ride so that you don’t miss a minute of the action. Join forces with Star-Lord, Gamora and and the other Guardians on a rocking quest with a killer soundtrack to save the galaxy.
Dining That Will Send You Into Orbit
We guarantee that your tweens will be blown away by Space 220 Restaurant, a new dining experience that is simply out-of-this-world. You’ll blast off to 220 miles above the earth at this EPCOT eatery where you dine while enjoy panoramic views of the earth while enjoying awesome dishes aboard the Centauri Space Station.
Feel the Force of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Speaking of heading to space, your tweens will definitely want to spend an hour or two at Galaxy’s Edge, the new Star Wars-focused land in Hollywood Studios. This fully immersive area of the theme parks is long nothing you’ve ever experienced before. Here you can join the Resistance in a climactic battle against the First Order in Rise of the Resistance, pilot the Millennium Falcon on a smuggling mission, build your own drone, customize your perfect lightsaber and enjoy some blue milk!
Disney Fireworks Go High Tech
When visiting with your tween, make plans to stay after dark. Not only is this an awesome time to experience the attractions all lit up but Disney fireworks these days are absolutely next level. A great example is Disney Enchantment which is the new evening extravaganza at Magic Kingdom. This nighttime offering features pyrotechnics, lasers, special effects, castle projections and more to weave a wonderous story that is sure to dazzle. Best of all, in celebration of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, the projections extend down Main Street, USA which is sure to be one of Disney’s biggest “WOW!” moments of your theme park visit.
An After Hours Dance Party Disney Style
If you’re looking for a fun evening activity to enjoy with your tween then look no further than Disney H2O Glow After Hours at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park. This high-energy special ticketed dance party event transforms the storm-strewn water paradise into the perfect evening bash. Tickets are now available for the even which takes place on Saturdays through August 27th. You can ride your favorite waterslides without the wait, enjoy special eats and treats, dance to a DJ spinning tunes on the beach and so much more. Grab those glow sticks and get your tickets!
Even Disney Downtime is Delightful
When your tween is looking for a break from the rides, be sure to set aside some time to enjoy Disney World’s incredible entertainment options. If they grew up with Finding Nemo then they’ll love the ‘Finding Nemo: The Big Blue and Beyond’ at Disney’s Animal Kingdom which is an all-singing, all-dancing retelling of the beloved Pixar story. If “We Need to Talk About Bruno” was a staple on their TikTok stream then tweens will also enjoy catching a glimpse of Mirabel from Encanto which now appears in the “Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade” at Magic Kingdom along with Miguel from Coco and more. Another highlight is definitely Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade at the Magic Kingdom featuring characters form all the Disney movies they loved when they were little including familiar faces from The Little Mermaid, Tangled, Peter Pan and more!
