Preview Performance of ‘Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond’ Today at Animal Kingdom
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you may have seen the news that the beloved Finding Nemo musical is returning to Animal Kingdom on June 13th. Today we caught word that the production is doing a soft opening so we rushed over to the parks! Here’s a first look at the exciting changes Disney has made to this beloved show.
Trust us when we say that this production has some pretty fantastic updates while still including all of the things that we know and love about the original production.
Below is a look at the Finding Nemo schedule for today.
Those used to the original 40 minute show should note that its been shortened down to 25 minutes.
Here’s a look inside the theater!
The venue features the same wooden bleacher seating.
There’s a Marine Life Institute backdrop when you arrive!
We love the underwater feel of the curtain and projections.
The show was just as magical as we remembered!
The puppetry still takes the center stage in Big Blue..and Beyond.
The stage itself is slightly different with 3D elements added to the wings giving it a diorama sort of feel.
The backdrop for the production is vivid and creates a whimsical underwater atmosphere.
The stingray puppet has always been one of our favorites!
Here’s nemo and his classmates!
It’s Dory!
Below is Bruce to remind us that fish are friends and not food!
Here is Bruce meeting Dory and Nemo.
Look how clever and iridescent the jellyfish are.
Below are some awesome family pictures of Nemo and Marlin.
We love these touching moments between father and son.
The updated production still features rousing musical numbers.
This definitely remains one of our favorite Walt Disney World theme parks shows.
The 25 minute runtime felt like the perfect length for this show.
The production maintained all of its original magic and wonderful storytelling.
The shorter runtime means that now the show is a bit more family friendly (especially for those with very small children) without compromising on content.
The audience really seemed to be engaged and enjoying every minute of Big Blue…and Beyond.
We imagine that soft-opening performances will continue through the weekend until the official opening on Monday (June 13, 2022.)
We love the wide array of characters represented in the show including Peach the starfish.
We want to give a huge shoutout to all of the cast members who put on an incredible performance.
Its no easy feat to man a puppet while singing along to some of the incredible musical numbers you’ll find in the show.
We will definitely be seeing the show again…it was that good!
There was an incredible ensemble cast.
They really brought the big blue world to life.
Below is a look at Gill
As you can see, all of the cast member costumes were created to blend in with the underwater scenery.
The show features a new layered look with cut paper sculptures. In addition, a new script, LED video wall and a fish tank volcano (measuring 15 feet tall) have been added to the show.
Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for further Walt Disney World news and updates. We’ll be coming to you LIVE from the theme parks each and every week.
The use of the new stage elements were fantastic. At one moment it could set the mood for a quiet morning in the coral reef.
In another moment it could look just like the fish tank in the dentist’s office.
Above is a look at P Sherman’s famous googles.
Here’s another look at Peach.
Along with the always adorable Bloat the blowfish!
The fish tank scenes were definitely some of our favorites in the show.
For fans of Crush you’ll also be pleased to know that he makes an appearance.
Crush is definitely one of the most intricate puppets in the show.
It takes two people to manage the Crush puppet.
There’s also cast members atop to manage Nemo and Dory!
You can even see Crush’s son squirt making an appearance!
At many key moments in the show, you would see characters taking to the wings.
There were also moments when the fish would be out mingling in areas near the audience.
The audience interactions brought an extra element of fun!
Below you can see Dory mingling from on of the side stages.
We think Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond should definitely be on your Disney must-do list.
