The Cayman Islands Set to Welcome Cruises Again
As the march towards “normalcy” continues, I am excited to announce that one of my personal favorite cruise ports is about to welcome cruises once again! Travel Weekly is reporting that pending formal approval from the government, cruises can return to the Cayman Islands beginning March 21 as part of a phased reopening approach.
The Cayman Islands’ Ministry of Tourism phased approach to welcoming cruises again starts with Phase 1. This Phase will allow 40% of previous cruise passenger volumes or a maximum of 75,000 Guests.
The Ministry of Tourism is also relying on current protocols of most major cruise lines that require all crew and 95% of all passengers to be fully-vaccinated.
If Phase 1 goes well, the Ministry of Tourism will look to remove any restrictions with approval from the Health Department of the island nation.
The Cayman Island’s Minister of Tourism released the following statement about welcoming cruises once again:
The administration does not take the decision to reintroduce cruise tourism lightly. The fact remains that while the pandemic persists, all travel, whether by air or sea, presents a certain degree of risk. However, as we are seeing with stayover arrivals, our islands’ high vaccination rate, coupled with having the right protocols in place, is allowing our tourism industry to recover.
Once the phased restart of cruising is approved by government officials, the Ministry of Tourism will release updated information on the specific protocols that will be required for all cruise lines to follow.
