Lunar New Year Procession Celebrates Heritage
The abundance of rhythm and color that burst from “Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession” took our breath away today during our time celebrating Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure Park.
We caught the processional earlier in the day, waving to Mulan and Mushu on their new float as well as to the lovable Tigger, who features in honor of 2022’s Year of the Tiger.
As Lunar New Year does, this year’s festivities at the park celebrate “the celestial journey of the sun and the moon on their voyage toward another year. This special festival invites you to make memories with your family and friends while sharing wishes for good health, luck and prosperity throughout the year to come,” Disney Parks Blog said in a post.
Traditional Chinese drummers beat out rhythms as Mushu and Mulan waved to guests perched on top of their new floaat. The red and gold decor adds such incredible bursts of color that symbolize happiness and good fortune.
In the evening, the lanters that surround both the Mulan float as well as Goofy’s transportation illuminate in a magical glow. The floats also display an abundance of golden lanters with decorative tassels as well as red firecrackers on display.
During the extensive procession, a traditional Chinese dragon winds its way down the route as do a number of other exquisite performers. We especially loved the fan dancers not only because of their colorful and flowing costumes but also the lyrical performance.
Each day, the procession begins at the Pixar Pier Gate and travels each day to the Paradise Gardens Obelisk.
Rhythmic and artistic displays using ribbons and even umbrellas also proved to be absolutely breathtaking!
Showing a different side to the art of Chinese dance, another group of featured artists performed a more ritualistic dance as they walked through the route.
Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession takes place five times daily with performances at 1:30 p.m., 2:45 p.m., 4:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m., and 7 p.m. Stay tuned for more as MickeyBlog takes Disneyland this week!
