Construction Update: TRON Coaster Taking Shape at Magic Kingdom
During our visit to the Magic Kingdom this afternoon, we decided to pop by and see how construction is coming along on the TRON Coaster.
Our excitement over Disney World’s latest thrill ride is reaching fever pitch.
So far, Disney has yet to announce an official opening date for the attraction which takes its inspiration from the TRON films as well as the wildly popular coaster at Shanghai Disney.
We’ve watched the outdoor canopy which is a cornerstone of the ride really take shape over the last few months.
As you can see, there are now panels covering the grid design that make up the canopy.
Once completed, Magic Kingdom visitors will be able to experience a heart-pounding race for survival as The Grid from the TRON films comes alive.
The ride will feature adrenaline-pumpkin music, lights and 3D graphics as you dip and dive through a digitized darkness with one of the fastest indoor coasters in Disney theme park history.
For those unfamiliar, the TRON Coaster will be located in Tomorrowland near Space Mountain and Tomorrowland Speedway.
If you are interested in getting a view of the work on the coaster during your visit we recommend two places.
The first is from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover.
The raised platform gives you a bird’s eye view of the entire site especially the canopy.
Another location we recommend is in Storybook Circus near the Barnstormer ride.
Here you can get sweeping views up both the canopy (with Space Mountain in the distance) as well as the building the will house the indoor portion of the coaster.
At the moment, the construction site is obstructing the area of the original track for the Walt Disney World Railroad.
For that reason the trains have been out-of-commission since construction kicked off on the coaster.
However, from the image above, you can see the track for Tomorrowland Speedway which is right next to the construction site.
This ride remains open with giant construction walls put into place!
As soon as an official opening date is announced for the ride, we’ll let you know!
