Brightline Testing New Florida Rail Line From Miami to Orlando
It looks like the Brightline rail project that will connect South and Central Florida with a high speed rail line is gaining momentum. According to a recent post on WFTV, the company has started running trains between West Palm Beach and Brevard County.
Once completed, the railway will connect Miami and Orlando.
The testing currently underway allows engineers and conductors learn and test the tracks. Currently this is being done on a 130-mile stretch. It should be noted that Brightline is not yet welcoming passengers. However, this is clearly a turning point in the evolution of a project many years in the works.
According to WFTV, the test train departed from West Palm Beach at 7:30 am in the morning and arrived in Micco after a four hour trip.
Runs like this allow crews to familiarize themselves with the curves, straightaways and towns they will go through according to a Brightline spokesperson.
During the test runs, the trains are moving much slower than they will when full operational with speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.
Next up for Brightline are test runs kicking off today between Brevard County and Cocoa. The train will then head back to West Palm Beach.
Brightline was also able to provide some insights regarding costs. During a meeting with Orange County representatives Brightline advised that the trip from Orlando to Miami would be $100 for a one way ticket and $200 for roundtrip.
As we previously reported here at MickeyBlog, the Brightline service is of upmost interest to Disney fans not only for its ability to connect those in Southern Florida with Orlando but also due to the fact that an extension of the line will connect Orlando International Airport with Disney Springs at Walt Disney World.
This is a story that we will continue to follow closely. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for further Disney-related news and updates.
