Missed Out On a Figment Popcorn Bucket? You Can Get It In Cake Form
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that the hottest story out of the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts last week was unexpectedly the fervor over the Figment Souvenir Popcorn containers!
Figment fans lined up for over 5 hours last week to get their hands on one of these cute souvenirs only for them to crop up minutes later for hundreds of dollars on eBay. If you were following along with us yesterday, you may have also seen the news that the containers have, at least for the moment, sold out!
However, there are other ways to get your Figment fix as demonstrated by one genius cake creator. Just check out her Facebook post below:
Jillian Hopke who runs Jillycakes Orlando, got one little spark of inspiration after hearing about the excitement over the Figment popcorn buckets and decided to create a cake version that looked nearly identical to the real thing.
“It was Friday at midnight, I just turned to my husband and was like, ‘I need to make this right now’,” Hopke described. “If you’re any sort of crafter, painter, artist, when that happens, you have to, like, immediately do it.”
According to a recent piece by Click Orlando, Hopke who is originally from Massachusetts has a baking history that goes all the way back to helping her mom make everything from Kermit to My Little Pony-themed cakes for family members’ birthday parties. She remembers, “I sort of grew up with that with those ‘big moment, big event’ cakes.”
If Hopke looks familiar, it may also be because she was the Season 6 champion of Cupcake Wars on the Food Network and recently appeared on Season Three of Holiday Wars.
A former Disney cast member, Hopke began hatching out a plan to recreate this loveable dragon and documented her journey on social media.
Hopke said that a friend of hers picked up a popcorn bucket on Friday and regaled her with the story of waiting in line for over five hours. All of the photos her friend sent her of the popcorn bucket were then used to help her create an accurate model for her cake.
As you can see from the images above, the head was made of foam and the body was composed of six delicious layers of vanilla rainbow cake. The whole thing was then covered in modeling chocolate and fondant!

Hopke told Click Orlando that once all the pieces were baked and assembled she had to chill and then decorate the cake. She explained that the entire process took about seven or eight hours. She said, . “The time that I could have waited for a bucket, I’ve made one myself.”
After the cake was assembled she then took the cake to EPCOT for its big debut. As you can see from the post above, Hopke and Co. brought the cake inside the park for a grand unveiling.
It should come as no surprise to find out that the cake proved massively popular with EPCOT guests. One guests felt so inspired that she even gave a popcorn bucket that she had just purchased to Hopke to keep! “We went to hand it back and she was like ‘No, I’m just inspired by this whole moment, this is yours.’ So, I ended up getting one,” Hopke laughed.
Since posting the photos of the Figment Cake, Hopke’s Facebook account has been blowing up and she’s drawn the attention of local media! “This creation truly healed my soul after a very hard week. We all have a figment in our own imagination, look within yourself and set it free,” she concluded in a post on Facebook.
