Celebrate Disney World’s 50th Anniversary With Pressed Pennies, Medallions and Tags
A favorite pastime for Disney regulars and collectors has been gathering pressed pennies from machines scattered around Walt Disney World. This is a hobby enthusiasts have enjoyed for over 30 years. For those interested in starting or adding to your collection during your next Walt Disney World getaway, here are some helpful pointers.
New Additions to Celebrate 50 Years of Walt Disney World Magic
In honor of the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary celebration, special 50th Anniversary-themed pressed coins, medallions and tags are now available throughout the theme parks. Be on the lookout for keepsakes depicting characters from Disney’s incredible Fab 50 golden statues now on display throughout the parks.
“Our guests love to have unique and special takeaways, so these pennies are perfect for the celebration,” said Bob Opificius, Manager, Operations Experience Integration. “Coin pressed pennies, medallions and tags are great for everyone from die-hard collectors to guests just having fun, bouncing around the Disney area collecting souvenirs.”
Penny Presses Have Gone Digital
Some of the newer machines at Walt Disney World are now offering electronic methods of payments and will also take a dollar bill. That means that you can continue to amass your pressed penny collection without having to visit the parks with rolls of change! But, don’t worry. If you’re feeling nostalgic for the old way of doing things, you’ll still find machines that take change payments.
For those really looking to expand your collection bring change AND have debit or credit cards at the ready so that you can take advantage of both options.
QUICK TIP: Did you know that you can use the My Disney Experience Mobile app to find pressed penny machines around Walt Disney World? Use the search function on the bottom of your screen and type in “Coin Press Machines” you can then select the “Find on Map” for locations across Walt Disney World Resort.
New Machines Use Uncirculated Pennies
The new digital machine designs we told you about above eliminate the need to search for the perfect shiny penny. They are now filled with brand-new uncirculated pennies. They’re also equipped with a touch screen for easy navigation and operate in six different languages.
The new digital machines also give guests the ability to select one, eight or even twelve different penny designs all at once for easy collecting.
Some machines even accept Apple Pay and Google Wallet!
Try the Pressed Penny Silk Pie
We’ve even got a special sweet treat for all you pressed penny fans! Head over to Casey’s Corner at the Magic Kingdom and pick up the Pressed Penny Silk Pie. This treat comes with a chocolate tart shell filled with chocolate and topped with sweet whipped cream. It also includes the only edible chocolate-pressed penny!
You’ll find this goodie available throughout Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration!
