REVIEW: 50th Celebration Ice Cream Sandwich
The combination of heavy Holiday crowds and unseasonably warm winter weather has us ditching the pumpkin pie in favor of a cooler treat this weekend! With the 50th Anniversary well underway, we’ve been tasting our way through Walt Disney World to bring you honest reviews of all the snacks and treats we taste.
We braved the crowds and headed over to Dinoland in Animal Kingdom during Thanksgiving week to check out the 50th Celebration Ice Cream Sandwich. The treat can be found at the walk-up Dino-Bite Snacks window attached to Restaurantasaurus….but is it worth the hike to Dinoland? Let’s find out…
50th Celebration Ice Cream Sandwich
The massive sandwich is comprised of a scoop of sprinkle-rolled vanilla ice cream stuffed between two ultra-soft chocolate cookies. The cookies themselves are decorated with colorful celebratory sprinkles that give the sandwich that 50th hue we’re seeing just about everywhere.
I loved everything about this treat, but the cookies were the true stand-out portion of the sandwich for me. They were extremely soft and were clearly baked that day.
I am a HUGE fan of the chocolate crinkle cookies they serve each year as part of the Festival of the Holidays in Epcot, and these super chocoalte-y, very chewy cookies reminded me a LOT of those. Add in a scoop of hand-dipped vanilla ice cream, and you’ve got what is my favorite treat of the 50th Anniversary so far.
The concentrated coca flavor supplied by the decadent cookie does a wonderful job of keeping the sweetness level manageable here. Just grab some spoons when you pick yours up because once the ice cream starts to melt, you’re going to need a spoon to finish the rest!
I am not exaggerating when I say ‘massive’ in regards to this treat. I shared this with someone in my party and the two of us couldn’t finish the monstrosity! Overall, it gets two thumbs up and my highest recommendations. I would even tell you to go out of your way to get the treat next time you’re in Animal Kingdom!
